Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary

The whole of Coastal Karnataka is a pleasure for nature lovers. It offers a wide variety of nature to experience. Be it beaches or temples, every place is decked by its scenic surroundings! Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary is the place for such nature enthusiasts. Located at Kollur in Udupi district, this sanctuary spans 247 sq. kms offering a huge variety of dense vegetation and wildlife. This place shares its north western boundary with Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary. Divided into three zones viz. core zone (114 sq. km), buffer zone (90 sq. km) and tourist zone (43 sq. km), Mookambika sanctuary is home of thick evergreen and semi evergreen trees. Found in some places are deciduous trees and teak plantations.

Malyadi Bird Sanctuary

The sanctuary is actually just a bunch of farms and marshlands.

In Kundapur Taluk of Udupi district, a town called Malyadi witnesses a large congregation of birds resident as well as migratory. Malyadi is 24 kilometres away from Udupi and around 8 kilometres from Kundapur, and merely 1.5 kilometres from Thekatte.

Kudremukh National Park

The name Kuduremukha literally means ‘horse-face’ and refers to a particular picturesque view of a side of the mountain that resembles a horse’s face. The Kudremukh National Park comes under the Global Tiger Conservation Priority-I and is the largest declared Wildlife Protected Area (600 sq. km) of a tropical wet evergreen type of forest in the Western Ghats.

Kudremukh National Park is popular for its scenic beauty, located in midst of mountains and is known for all kinds of flora and fauna. This is also a trekker’s paradise with a number of tracks winding through the rolling hills. The park shares its boundary with Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary on the western side and is linked to Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary through a narrow stretch of Reserved Forests on the southern edge.

Kodachadri Hills

Kodachadri is a picturesque hill is located such that it overlooks the vast Western Ghats.

Located in the Shimoga district, Kodachadri Hills in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, is declared as natural heritage site by the Government of Karnataka. Kodachadri hills are covered with dense forests comprising one of the biggest forest zones in Karnataka and a section of this region constitutes the Mookambika Nature Reserve.

Arbi falls near Nitte is smaller than other falls. Nevertheless, for its serene atmosphere and beauty. One can stay there just to listen to its gentle murmurs. The origin of this falls is Manjaltar River.

Suparshwa Cave, Kamalashile

The 3 separate lingas found in the cave are of Tri-Shakti Linga – Kali, Lakshmi & Saraswathi.

This cave is located near Kamalashile; at a distance of 25Kms from Kundapur in Udupi districts. The cave is surrounded by mountains and ever green forests. In Krutha Yuga, when King Suparsha was searching for a suitable place to do penance & get moksha, He came across this cave & found it suitable. This was the reason to name this cave after king suparsha.

Sasthana Kodi River

Is very famous and rises during the monsoon.

Sasthana village,Kodi is known for the serene backwaters of the rivers in and around the area. The backwaters formed mainly by River Sita and river Kodi, are scenic places, the boats can be used to enjoy the scenery and nature.

Hanging Bridge Kemmannu

Is very famous hanging bridge and is 280 feet long.

An impressive looking hanging bridge, It attracts curious visitors from far off places. It connects one of the better – known islands,Thimmannakudru to the mainland.

Haladi River

Is a very beautiful river,Here Haladi river meets Arabian Sea.

Haladi or Halady is a quaint little town located in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district. The river that flows on the northern side of the village is River Haladi, also goes by the name River Varahi. According to the legends, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu is Varaha; and its feminine form is Varahi. This river originates in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. The fresh waters of this river is the main source of irrigation for arecanut cultivation along the banks of the river.

Udyavara River

Flows through here,This river is so beautiful and spectacular.

The river Udyavara that flows from the east to west takes a northerly turn and separates the town Udyavara from the sea before joining the sea at Malpe.
